Michael A Wasemiller, DDS | Osseous Grafting in Murrieta

Osseous Grafting / Guided Tissue Regeneration

Osseous is Latin for bone.

Osseous surgery (bone surgery) is a procedure that reshapes the bone which hold your teeth in place. Osseous surgery commonly treats periodontal disease. Patients with periodontal disease can experience defects in the bone around their teeth. The osseous surgery removes those defects. Prior to the surgery, the patient undergoes a periodontal treatment that consists of scaling and root planing.  Once the roots are cleaned, the bony defects around the teeth are reshaped.  Bone grafting material is used where the defects are too large to be treated with only reshaping. Once the bone is back to its normal contour, the gums are stitched back into place. Osseous Grafting is one of the most common procedures done, with a high success rate.
